ARCATA, Calif. — The Sonoma State Seawolves broke their four game losing streak Saturday night as they downed Humboldt State on the road by a final score of 75-69. The Seawolves utilized 53 bench points in the win while going 7 for 13 from three-point range to reel in their fourth victory of the season.
The Jacks made their way out the gate early, taking a quick lead and opening up an eight-point lead within the first four minutes of play. However, their 12-4 margin would top out as the home team's largest of the game as the Seawolves fought their way back into the game.
Mason Phillips hit a three-pointer before Jordan Fleck—who would eventually put together an 18-point performance—added a pair of layups to pull within one, 11-12. However, the Seawolves finally took their first lead of the game, 20-19, on a jumper by Fleck with 8:54 remaining in the half.
After a bit of back and forth, the teams found themselves tied at 29 with 3:06 to play in the period. Issac Davidson, Lewayne Grant and Davion Mize combined for nine-straight points, opening a 38-29 margin with a little over a minute remaining in the half.
The Seawolves worked their way out to a 10-point lead in the the opening minutes of the second half, 43-33, their largest margin of the game.
The Jacks made things interesting in the second period, tying things up at 51 and taking a brief lead with a little over 10 minutes to play. However, the Seawolves recaptured their lead 56-55 and held on throughout the remainder of the game.
With the victory, Sonoma State improves to 4-6 and 2-4 in conference play. The Seawolves will return to action after the holiday break, taking on Cal State East Bay in Hayward January 2 at 7:30pm PT.
