Seawolves Lose Edge In Second Half Vs Warriors

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — After playing to a convincing 34-30 score through the opening 20 minutes, the Sonoma State Seawolves lost their first-half advantage over visiting Stanislaus State in a disappointing 67-57 loss from the Wolves Den .

Sonoma State took an early lead Saturday night, leading by as many as five in the opening seven minutes, but the Warriors rallied back with a 10-3 run to take a 18-14 lead with 11:02 remaining in the half. However, the Seawolves immediately countered with a three-pointer from Lewayne Grant, a jumper from Jordan Fleck and an emphatic dunk from Naaman Hightower, which tied the game up at 21, with 8:09 to play in the half.

Sonoma State rode their momentum through the half, taking a 34-30 lead to the break, and when the home squad returned to the court, they expanded their margin to nine points with 18:53 to play. Unfortunately, that's when the Warriors would find their stride.

Over the next 3:33, Stanislaus State put up ten straight points, taking a 40-39 lead—their first of the half—and while the Seawolves hung close through the eight-minute mark, their shots started missing the net. Sonoma State, who had gone 11-23 from the field and 5-12 beyond the arc in the first half, sunk a mere 19.2% of their shots while making only two of ten three-point attempts in the second period.

Stanislaus State finished off the game with a 25-14 run in the final 12:37 of play, adding 15 points from the line, to build a 10-point margin between themselves and the Seawolves.

With the loss, Sonoma State drops to 3-6 and 1-4 in CCAA play, while Stanislaus State improves to 8-2 and 5-2 in conference action.

Sonoma State returns to action next week as they travel to Arcata to take on the Humboldt State Jacks on December 16. Tip off is set for 7:30pm PT.
