SANTA ROSA, Calif. – Sonoma State baseball opened CCAA play winning both games in Friday's double-header over San Francisco State. The Seawolves won the first game 4-1 and the second 5-2.
The Seawolves are now 4-0 overall and 2-0 in conference while the Gators fall 2-8 overall and 0-2 in the CCAA.
Game 1:
Game one saw
Nathan Mann go 2 for 4 at bat and score two runs.
Bryce Nagata was 1 for 3, but also scored two runs.
Haydon Turpin got his second win and is 2-0 while Severson earned a save.
Both teams scored in the third inning on RBI singles. The Seawolves' came courtesy of
Mitch West swinging the bat and Mann running home. However, it was only Sonoma that would score after that.
In the fifth inning, Mann scored again, this time
Daniel Caresio brought him in after grounding out to second.
Bryce Nagata would score the next two runs for Sonoma on RBI's. The first was in the sixth from
Joshua Montelongo who singled to third, and the second was in the eighth off of a
Grant St. Martin double.
Game 2:
St. Martin had two doubles and a home run in the second game; he was 3 for 4 at the plate. Caresio was 2 for 4, both hits were doubles. The two players accounted for 5 out of 7 total hits for Sonoma;
Riley Jones also contributed a double and
Nicco Toni a single.
Matt Hammonds earned his first win this season (1-0) and
Cody Bennett got his second save.
Game two opened with a bang. St. Martin homered with Caresio and West already on to put the score at 3-0. Neither team scored again until the seventh inning. Caresio knocked a double and brought in Jones and Toni. That play brought the score to 5-1. San Francisco was able to score a run in the eighth inning, but was unable to do more than that.
The Seawolves and the Gators will wrap up the end of the series with a double-header on Sunday. Time and place TBD.
