Seawolves Win Conference Opening Series 3-1 Over Gators

SANTA ROSA, Calif. – Sonoma State split Sunday's conference double header with San Francisco State. Sonoma won 9-1 and then lost game two in a 5-4 in a walk-off single. Sonoma improves to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the CCAA. The Gators fall 1-3 in conference and 3-9 overall.

Game 1:
The Seawolf bats went to work during game one; nine runs on 12 hits. The pitching staff of Sonoma proved rock solid, as the Gators only earned four hits. Clark picks up his first win on the season (1-0), only giving up one run and one walk.

The first run scored in the game was a homer by Sahagian on the first pitch of the second inning.

The Seawolves next run wasn't till the sixth inning. St. Martin singled, next Sahagian singled, then Mann came up and hit a double to bring both St. Martin and Sahagian in, Sahagian just beating the throw home. Mann used the throw home to advance to third so when Brown hit a sacrifice fly he scored easily. The rally brought the score 4-0 Seawolves.

Sonoma had five hits in the ninth inning. West got Romero in on an RBI single to start things off. Two batters later St. Martin loaded the bases off a walk. That's when Leslie launched the ball over the left field fence for a grand slam, raising the Seawolves' score 9-1. The bottom of the inning was three consecutive short to first put-outs.

Game 2:
Sonoma had four runs on six hits, Jake Sahagian was 3 for 4 at bat and Mann was one for two with two RBI's.

The first three runs were in the first inning. First Nagata had an RBI single to score Caresio. Second, St. Martin grounded out to first and West scored. Third Mann sacrifice flied out to center and Nagata scored.

The Gators scored two more times, once in the fourth and fifth innings to bring the score even 3 all.

In the seventh, Mann doubled to left field and scored Sahagian and the Seawolves were ahead 4-3. But the bottom of the seventh saw the Gators score two, resulting in the first loss of the season for Sonoma.

Next for Sonoma State will be Academy of Art University Tuesday, February 28, at 2:00pm.
