ROHNERT PARK -- Both
Karly Macadangdang and
Lindsey Calcany Blair went 3 for 5 with a double and a triple in both games combined and
Brigid Ruiz gave up just one run in six innings in game two as the Sonoma State softball team earned a split with visiting Cal State San Bernardino Friday afternoon after the Seawolves lost the first game 5-1 before coming back to win the second game 8-1.
Sonoma moves to 10-7 overall and 5-5 in the CCAA. CSU San Bernardino is now 12-8 (7-5 CCAA).
In the first game,
Malory Masajlo singled up the middle to score pinch-runner
Mykala Tokunaga to cut SSU's deficit in half, 2-1, in the second inning, but that would be the only run Sonoma would get off of CSUSB starter Cassandra Williams, who went the distance to improve to 7-5 on the year. The Seawolves managed just three hits off of Williams in the contest.
Brielle Vidmar (4-2) was tagged with the loss, going all seven innings as well, allowing nine hits, five runs (three earned) and walking two while striking out two.
In game two, the Seawolves scored early and scored often, en route to the seven-run victory.
Alison Strycula got the offense started with a bunt single scoring Calcany Blair before
Jenny Collazo ripped a two-run single for the 3-0 lead in the third. Macadangdang tripled home Strycula in the fifth, then came home on another RBI from Collazo to make it 5-0 in the fifth.
The Coyotes only run came in the sixth, but the Seawolves responded with three more in their half of the inning on more damage by Strycula and Collazo, followed by a
Jordann White double to right center for the 8-1 win.
Ruiz (3-3) went six innings in the win before
Gabby Dupree came in to close out the game in the seventh.
Sonoma State and Cal State San Bernardino wraps up its four-game series Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 am.
