Seawolves Lose to Wildcats in Doubleheader Saturday

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Saturday did not go the way of the Seawolves. Sonoma State fell to Chico State 5-3 in game one and 10-2 in game two. The Wildcats maintain their perfect conference record of 11-0 and 18-4 overall and the Seawolves fall 8-7 overall and 5-6 in the CCAA.

Game 1:
The Seawolves had 3 runs on 6 hits and no errors. Rayson Romero had two RBI's and a triple on three at-bats.

All of the Seawolves runs came in the second inning off of Romero's triple. It started with Grant St. Martin scoring off of a wild pitch and Joshua Montelongo and Trevor Abrams advanced. Then Romero hit down the right field line to score both Montelongo and Abrams. Just like that the Seawolves were up 3-1.

The Wildcats came back to score in the fifth inning and twice in the eighth. In the ninth inning, Jake Sahagian came in to pinch hit and got on base with two outs, but the two-out rally was not meant to be.

The Seawolf defense held the Wildcats to five runs on 32 at bats. Mat Hammonds pitched the first five innings, striking out three.

Game 2:
Sonoma had 2 runs on 5 hits and one error.

Chico got up 3-0 in the first inning, but Sonoma also scored that inning when Mitch West came home on a throwing error. Both teams were held scoreless in the second. In the third inning Bryce Nagata scored as Daniel Caresio grounded out to second base. The score was 3-2 until the fifth inning. However, in the fifth inning Chico scored three times and four in the seventh.

Nagata had two hits and one run off three at bats and West had one hit and one run off three at bats.

The conference series between Chico and Sonoma will conclude tomorrow March 12, with a single game starting at 11:00 am at Seawolf Diamond.
