SAN MARCOS, Calif. -- Brielle Vidmar posted another complete game shutout in game one,
Teresa Danenberg allowed just one run in game two, and the Sonoma State offense provided plenty of run support to result in a sweep of host Cal State San Marcos on Friday afternoon at the CSUSM Softball Field in San Marcos.
The Seawolves have won nine straight games, improving to 18-7 overall and 13-5 in the CCAA. The Cougars fell to 7-14 (6-10 CCAA).
It was all Seawolves in the opener, but it wasn't until the fourth inning that they broke the scoreless tie, thanks to a defensive error that allowed
Jordann White to score. In the fifth,
Jenny Collazo and White delivered RBI base hits to push the SSU lead to 3-0. Another run came home to score in the sixth on an infield single by
Alex Flores, then in the seventh, Collazo powered her first home run as a Seawolf over the center field fence for two more runs, then
Sarah Langley put the exclamation point on the game with an RBI single for the 7-0 lead and eventual win.
Meanwhile, Vidmar continued to dominate opposing hitters, holding the Cougars to just five hits, striking out four in improving to 7-2 this season.
In game two, Flores squeezed home
Jenn Amaral in the top of the fourth inning to record the first run of the game. Cal State San Marcos retaliated with a run of its own in the bottom of the fourth, but that would be the only run the Cougars would score off of Danenberg the rest of the way.
Lindsey Calcany Blair scored on an error in the fifth to give Sonoma the lead at 2-1,
Alison Strycula singled home Langley in the sixth, and White smashed her team-leading fifth home run of the season in the seventh, a solo shot that put SSU up 4-1.
Danenberg (4-2) gave up only that one run in the fourth, scattered four hits and struck out two in her winning effort in the pitching circle.
Sonoma State and Cal State San Marcos wraps up its four-game series with a doubleheader Saturday starting at 11:00 am.
