TURLOCK, Calif. — The Sonoma State Softball team benefited from a huge third inning, which produced four of their five runs, three of those coming off the bat of
Sarah Langley in Thursday night's 5-1 win over Western Washington in non-conference action in Turlock. With the victory, their fourth in a row and 15th win in their last 16 games, the Seawolves improve to 24-8 on the year, while the Vikings fall to 12-11.
After a scoreless two and a half innings, the Seawolves broke the game wide open in the third inning.
Alison Strycula and
Karly Macadangdang led the inning off with back-to-back singles and
Jenny Collazo followed with a walk. Then, with one out,
Madison Barto walked, which brought in the first run of the contest. Later on in the inning, Langley hit a two out double to right center field, plating all three runners, and suddenly the Seawolves were up 4-0 heading into the fourth. Sonoma would also tack on another run in the fourth inning on a sacrifice bunt by
Jordann White.
The Vikings would get one of those runs back in the fifth inning on a two out double. It would be the only run
Teresa Danenberg would allow in her six innings of work in the pitcher's circle. The freshman from San Jose would only give up four hits, and struck out five batters Thursday night, while improving to 5-2 on the year.
Sonoma tallied seven hits all together on Thursday night, with Macadangdang leading the way with two in her three at-bats. In addition to Langley's three RBI performance, Barto had one on her walk, and White had one on her sacrifice bunt.
The Seawolves will return to the diamond Friday afternoon for two games. They will open the day with a 2:00 PM matchup against Concordia University, and will conclude the day when they take on Northwest Nazarene at 7:00 pm, both at Pedretti Field in Turlock.
