Defense and Pitching Help Seawolves Split Series vs Warriors

TURLOCK, Calif. - On day two of the four game conference series between Sonoma State and Stanislaus State, the Warriors won game one 12-2 and the Seawolves won game two 3-0. Sonoma's record now sits 5-3 in conference and 8-4 overall and Stanislaus' CCAA record is 2-6 and 12-7 overall. The teams split the four game series evenly, 2-2.

Game 1:
The Seawolves had 2 runs on 7 hits and 4 errors in the first game of the day. Sonoma scored twice in the sixth inning. Jake Sahagian sacrifice flied out to right field to bring in Alex Emerick. The next scored run was unearned by Grant St. Martin who scored on a throwing error by third base. Michael Byerline (0-1) earned his first loss of the season.

Game 2:
Not to be overcome by such a loss, the Seawolves shut down the Warriors offense in game two. Cody Bennett (1-1) earned a win, striking out three, giving up only 3 hits and no earned runs in six innings. Jackson Berumen came in to pitch after and earned his second save of the season.

Sonoma had 3 runs on 8 hits and no errors. Joshua Montelongo, Bryce Nagata, Matthew Richards and Nicco Toni had a double each.

In the first inning Nagata doubled down the left field line to score Mitch West. In the third inning Richards doubled to left and scored Montelongo, and then Toni doubled to left field as well and scored Richards.

The Seawolf defense did the rest and held their opponent scoreless for the entire game.

The Seawolves will play Chico State at Seawolf Diamond in Rohnert Park March 10-12 in a four game series starting March 10 at 2:00pm.
