Seawolves Shutout Pioneers in Final Game to Split Series

ROHNERT PARK, Calif.- Sonoma State took game four 6-0 to split their conference series against Cal State East Bay. The Seawolves rise 19-15 overall and 15-13 in conference while the Pioneers fall 23-14 overall and 14-11 in CCAA play. 

The pitching staff of Mitch Coombs (2-0), Matt Stafford, and Cody Bennett shut out the Pioneers and gave up only 8 hits on the game combined. Coombs took the win after pitching six innings and striking out 4, Stafford came in to pitch two innings and Bennet closed in the ninth. 

The Seawolves had 6 runs on 10 hits and no errors. Joshua Montelongo hit his second homer of the series and Daniel Caresio and Grant St. Martin each claimed a double. Caresio and Mitch West each stole a base as well. 

Montelongo was 2 for 4 with three RBI's and one run scored, thanks to his homer and an RBI single in the first inning that brought in Nathan Mann. Grant St. Martin was 1 for 3 with three RBI's. In his first at-bat of the game, he doubled down the left field line in the first inning to score West and Caresio. West was 2 for 4 on the day, respectfully. 

The Seawolves are scheduled to play Holy Names University at 2pm on Tuesday April 18, weather permitting, at Seawolf Diamond.
