ROHNERT PARK -- A dawn of a new season has broken and the Seawolves are back to their winning ways. Sonoma State volleyball welcomed their neighbors from up the road Pacific Union College, located in Anguin, Calif., to The Wolves' Den.
Sonoma State won by the scores of 25-18, 25-16, 25-11, to take a record of 1-0 on the young season. The Seawolves were led by sophomore outside hitter
Caiti Wiesner who finished the match with 13 kills on 20 attempts. Senior middle blocker
Kelsey McIntire and junior middle blocker
Morgan Annala were equally effective combining for 17 kills on 30 attempts en route to a .366 hitting average. Amanda Loeffler led the Pioneers with five kills.
After the match, senior outside hitter
Calan Seitz commented "We played very calm for our first match. We didn't have lots of ups and downs which was due to the fact of us not having a lot of unforced errors. Our serve receive was good and knowing this has been a problem in the past this was a good start."

Bear Grassl commented "It was nice to get our first win under our belt. We were a little high in errors early, but finally settled in. Our team played fantastic floor defense and we served tough enough to cause problems for our opponent."

Courtney Seda averaged 12 assists a set tonight while sophomore libero
Megan Bohorquez led all defenders with 14 digs. The stellar defense by the Seawolves held Pacific Union to a .053 hitting average on the evening.
The Seawolves don't have any rest time as on Friday they play a doubleheader versus a pair of Pacific West Conference opponents. Biola University, who is new to the Division II ranks, at 10:30 AM and Notre Dame De Namur at 7:00 P.M. on the campus of Notre Dame de Namur.
On Saturday the Seawolves return to the friendly confines of The Wolves' Den as they play another pair of Pacific West a Conference opponents as Dominican University and Holy Names come to town. Games will be at 2:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M.
