Owings Scores First Collegiate Goal In Loss At SPU

SEATTLE -- In a high-scoring game, the Sonoma State men's soccer team fell to Seattle Pacific by a final of 4-1 Saturday night at Interbay Stadium in Seattle, Wash.

Saturday night's game featured some tension, with three Seattle Pacific players receiving yellow cards throughout the contest, but the Seawolves were unable to fully capitalize on the Falcons' miscues throughout the match.

Seattle Pacific charged ahead 14 minutes into the first half, when Gabe Kellum scored the first of, what would be, two goals on the day. Grant Titus extended the 1-0 lead, scoring a goal of his own 15 minutes later.

At the end of the first half SSU found themselves down 2-0, and aspired to fight their way back into the game. However, Kellum notched his brace for Seattle Pacific 10 minutes into the second half, pushing the score to 3-0.

The lone goal for the Seawolves came unassisted at the 67-minute mark from freshmen Kyle Owings. Owings struck the ball from the left side of the six-yard box, and sent it to the far side of the net. An unfortunate own-goal in the 88th minute sealed SSU's fate 4-1.

The Seawolves (1-1-0) will look to rebound this week when they return home for their home opener against California Baptist on Thursday at 2:00 pm.
