Sonoma State 3, Dominican 0
ROHNERT PARK -- It was the fourth match of the season and the Sonoma State volleyball team seemed to have things completely in control as they competed against down the road rival Dominican University (0-4) from the Pacific West Conference. Sonoma State (3-1) won by scores of 25-16, 25-16, 25-20.
While the first two games were won easily it was the third game that was not looking favorable midway through the set. With the score 17-14 in favor of the Penquins it was a kill by senior outside hitter
Calan Seitz, and then a four point serving run by junior middle hitter
Morgan Annala who quickly changed the momentum with three aces in five attempts.
After a quick side out on a kill by defensive specialist
Ashleigh Phelps, it was sophomore setter
Baelei Wiesner who went on a three point run on her own which included an ace serve and took the score to 23-19. A quick side out led to the final play of the match where it was the true "sister act" where setter Baelei found her sister
Caiti Wiesner on the outside for the kill.
The Seawolves out hit the Penquins .265 to .084. Defensively,
Caiti Wiesner contributed with fifteen digs and not to be out done was libero
Megan Bohorquez who added thirteen more.
Coach Grassl: "We continue to play low error volleyball. We are doing well in the serve and pass game and we are getting contributions from all of our attackers."
