ARCATA, Calif. — A pair of goals by Sonoma State pushed the Seawolves to a 2-0 victory over the Humboldt State Jacks—their seventh win of the season and second in conference play.
"I was really proud of the way the team played today," said head coach Emiria Salzmann Dunn after the game. "We continue to get key performances from a number of different players which is always critical throughout the season."
The key performances in Wednesday's conference match came from seniors Cecilia Sifuentes and Holle Depina who each scored in the match.
Sifuentes opened the game with a goal in the 26th minute when the Seawolves were awarded a corner kick. Kristal Luna sent the ball in to the box where Sifuentes headed it in for the 1-0 lead.
That lead held through the 77th minute until Depina scored the second goal of the match. Depina's opportunity came when Sara Van Wagoner took a shot at goal, which was saved by keeper Katelin Talbert. Despite the save, Talbert bobbled the ball allowing Depina to capitalize on the rebound, and slot it home.
"It's exciting to see us learn and grow from each game and become more clear about who and what we are," said Salzmann Dunn.
With the win, the Seawolves will head home where they'll host UC Santa Cruz on September 22 at Seawolf Soccer Field. Kickoff is slated for 12pm PT.
