Volleyball Remains Perfect In CCAA With 3-0 Win At SFSU

SAN FRANCISCO -- On the campus of San Francisco State, the Seawolves rolled to their third straight win, and a 3-0 record in CCAA play.   Sonoma State won by the scores of 25-14, 25-17, 28-26. The win takes Sonoma State to 9-3 for the season, while dropping the home team to an overall record of 4-7, and an 0-3 record in conference play.

The Seawolves were led once again by senior outside hitter Calan Seitz who dominated the match with 12 kills, on 19 attempts and only one hitting error.   Hitting from the outside, Seitz finished with a hitting percentage of .579 which would be considered by some to be video game numbers from that position.  Assisting in the onslaught of the Gators were senior middle Kelsey McIntire who chipped in with 11 kills. Not to be outdone in the middle was Junior Morgan Annala who chipped in with nine kills and had zero hitting errors from the middle.

On the defensive side of the ball was sophomore libero Megan Bohorquez who averaged over 7.0 digs per set and finished with 22 on the evening, making play after play in critical moments in the game.

For the Gators, it was senior outside hitter Christine Johnson who led the team with 11 kills, and was the only member of her team to finish with double digit kills on the night.  The Gators heavily relied on Johnson who took more than twice the swings than any other member of her team on the evening.

While the first two sets were never really in question, it was the third set that was an offensive slug fest.  San Francisco hit for a blistering .391 average, accumulating 22 kills with only four errors, but the Seawolves who showed they could hit as well, knocking down 20 kills with only two errors.   Once again it came down to the Seawolves being tested in a deciding set, and finding a way in mentally staying tough on the road   The Seawolves had large leads early and with their biggest lead of the set at 14-7 it was the Gators who came storming back to tie the score at 22-22.

With the home crowd starting to make a difference, a two point run by the Seawolves on kills by setter Courtney Seda, and a middle kill by McIntire put the home team on the verge of defeat.   Once again the home team came storming back to tie the match at 24-24 forcing the Seawolves to take their second and final time out of the evening.   Finally at the fifth opportunity to put the set away it was Annala once again showing why she was the CCAA Player of the Week nailing down the victory and sending the Gators and the fans home disappointed.

The Seawolves have a day off and then its a drive up the coast on Friday as they face the Lumberjacks of Humboldt State University up in Arcata at 5:00 pm.  Humboldt State is currently 1-7 overall and coming off a heartbreaking loss to Cal State East Bay in five sets.
