TURLOCK, Calif. – Julia Pritchard proved Sunday afternoon's hero as her golden goal in double overtime netted the Seawolves their ninth win of the season and fifth in their last seven games.
With just over a minute remaining in play,
Bella Amyx found Pritchard inside the box and sent a through ball in to the freshman midfielder, where she turned on the ball and converted the game winner.
After an opening goal in the sixth minute of play by Stanislaus State's Sadie Ortiz, the Warriors controlled a single-goal lead for a majority of the match. It wasn't until the 79th minute that the Seawolves tied up the score.
With a ball loose in the box,
Sam Layman won possession and send a shot on goal to the right post to equalize with just over 10 minutes remaining.
Neither team proved able to score in the final minutes of regulation and despite Stan State's four shots in overtime, keeper
Kristen Spear denied the Warriors a walk off win and set up the victory for the Seawolves.
With the win Sonoma State moves to 9-2-3 on the season and 7-2-1 in CCAA play heading into a bye week before the team's final regular season games on October 25th and 27th at Seawolf Soccer Field.
