Stanford, Calif. -- A pair of Sonoma State men's basketball players scored double digits as the Seawolves got to within 12-points with just under five minutes left in the contest. Sonoma State held NCAA Division I Stanford opponent to 75-59 in an exhibition game at the Maples Pavilion Tuesday night.
Freshman
Aaron Porcil lead Sonoma State with 11 points,
Wesley Gilbert added 10, and
Jordan Hickman came off the bench to add nine points, three rebounds, connecting on all three of his free throws.
The Seawolves shot 45 percent from the field in the first half to stay within four points of Stanford going into halftime. Sonoma hit 2 of 3 free throws, Porcil scored nearly half his points in the opening 15 minutes.
Sonoma State tied the score three times, shot 38.2 percent from the floor in the game, and hit 10 of 18 free throws. The Seawolves scored three fast-break points, all in the second half.
Both teams saw 11 points off turnovers. The Seawolves had 31 points off the bench, to Stanford's nine.
Sonoma State will open the 2018-19 regular season next Friday at the San Francisco State Tipoff Classic in San Francisco. Tip off the swamp is set for 5:30 pm, against the Penguins of Dominican University.
