PETALUMA, Calif. – With their sixth shutout of the season, #23 Sonoma State locked down their fifth conference victory 1-0 on Friday, coming against Cal Poly Pomona at East Washington Park in Petaluma.
Molly Murphy paced the Seawolves with a first-half goal in the 26th minute that proved the difference in the match. A ball sent down the left line by
Bella Amyx found the foot of Murphy who then went 1-v-1 with goalkeeper Clarissa Sanchez and scored.
The Broncos proved the aggressor in the second half as they took seven shots and committed 11 fouls to Sonoma State's two and eight. However,
Kristen Spear prevented all three of the Broncos' second-half shots on frame from scoring and locked down her sixth shutout of the season.
With the win, the Seawolves improve to 5-1-1 (16 points) in CCAA play and move into a share of first place with Chico State (5-0-1, 16 points) ahead of their Sunday afternoon match with Cal State San Bernardino.
