Even Opening Weekend

San Rafael, Calif. – Four Seawolves scored double digits in Saturdays non-conference 58-64 loss to Dominican University. 
 
Ugochi Anudokem took hold of 16 rebounds, notched a pair of blocks and led Sonoma States offense, hitting 5 of her ten field goal shots, 5-of-9 free throw attempts and scoring a game-high 15 points for the Seawolves. Kylie Kiech dropped 11-points on the Penguins, going 2-for-2 at the free throw line, 3-for-6 at the 3-point line, and making 3 field goals. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Seawolves opened Saturdays game trailing the Penguins, a layup by Zane Scheckerd help Sonoma come within one point of Dominican 9-8 with a minute left in the quarter. At the end of the first, the Seawolves were down by three. 
 
A fast break from Sophie Northern and early momentum in the second quarter boosted the Seawolves to take a 14-11 lead over the Penguins. Dominican strung 13 points together and held the Seawolves to 14 till the 1:35 mark when Sheckerd added a layup to the mix, two good free throws by Anudokem added to the final score of the first half 28-18.
 
The Seawolves returned from halftime to outscore the Penguins in the second half 18-12, Kiech featured a pair of three-pointers and pair of layups and a free throw to bring the Seawolves with 4 points of the Penguins entering the final quarter.
 
Down eleven points in the fourth, the Seawolves strung 5 free throws and a three-pointer to close the gap 53-50. 
 
Down 59-51 with a minute remaining the Seawolves notched 5 of the final 8 shots, coming short 64-58.
 
WHAT'S NEXT: Sonoma takes to the road next weekend to face Point Loma in its final non-conference competition.
