Rohnert Park, Calif. – It may not be how the coaches drew it up, but the Seawolves got what they wanted.
Despite losing a double-figure lead, Sonoma State responded late to hold off Humboldt State 69-66 on Friday evening.
The win lifts the Seawolves to 1-0 start to conference play and 3-2 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Sonoma State broke out to a double-figure lead, leading by as many as 22 points, but the Jacks fought their way back.
The Seawolves built a double-figure lead in the first half and looked to be in firm control, but the game's momentum flipped in the final half. Even though Sonoma State continued to hold its lead, Humboldt State pulled within three points at the close of the frame.
Sonoma State held a constant lead, as the Jacks came with a point 64-63 with just over a minute to go in the game. Neither team held the lead larger than three points for the remainder of the game which set-up an exciting finish.
Tied 66-66 with under 30 seconds remaining in the game,
Aaron Porcil and
Jordan Hickman downed a combined three.
