Turlock, Calif. – Sonoma State, continues its strong start to its season with a 76-72 overtime win over Stanislaus State.
Stanislaus State erased a 6-point Seawolf lead midway through the second half, using a 17 run to take a three-point edge over Sonoma State with just under a minute remaining in regulation. With a jumper and 23 seconds left in regulation,
Armani Nicolis tied the game at 63-63, and the Seawolves never trailed in overtime to hang on for the victory.
After holding a 16-point lead midway through the first half, the Seawolves carried a 29-22 lead over the Warriors. Sonoma State went 12-for-14 (85.7%) at the free throw line while holding the Warriors to a 25.9% shooting percentage from the field.
In a season-high performance, six Seawolves registered double digits.
With a career-high, 100% (8-for-8) at the free throw line
Isaac Davidson led Sonoma States scoring efforts finding the net for 15 points and five rebounds.
Lewayne Grant went 3-for-3 at the free throw line, notching 13 points, four assists, and season-high three steals. Freshman
Aaron Porcil recorded his third consecutive double-digit game, downing 12-points, with six rebounds, one steal, and two assists. During his 15 minutes of play,
Wesley Gilbert scored 12 points (3-for-3 FT), snagged two rebounds, two assists and one steal. Nicolis credited the tying jumper in regulation, contributed 10 points (6-for-8 FT), five rebounds and one steal to the Seawolves overtime push. Rounding out Sonoma States double-digit evening,
Deshawnte Collins made both of his shots from the field and went 6-for-7 at the free throw line to contribute 10 points.
Sonoma State maintains its tie for first place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings by improving to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
How It Happened: Although Sonoma State led the game for over 30 minutes, Stanislaus closed out the final half with an extended run to erase the Seawolves' lead. The Warriors battled back with a 17 run to take a 63-58 lead into the final minute of regulation, with a jumper and 23 seconds left in regulation

Sonoma State controlled the overtime period, scoring four of the first five points to take a 68-67 lead with 2:11 left. A pair of made free throws and Gilbert in the paint grew the lead to 74-70 with 41 seconds left before Davidson secured the victory with two made free throws with one second left in overtime.
