Rohnert Park, Calif. – Teetering on a comeback, four leads gained by the Seawolves not enough, as Cal Poly Pomona came out 75-62.
Sonoma State is now 5-4 overall and 3-2 in the CCAA.
The Seawolves gained a four-point lead at the 13-minute mark with
Lewayne Grants going 2-for-2 at the free throw line. Midway through the first half Sonoma regained the lead (16-15) for the third time with a free throw by
Nick Klarman. Sonoma held a close grip on Cal Poly, holding the Broncos to a 10 percent (1-for-10) at the three-point line. In the final minute,
Armani Nicolis increased the score 30-27 at the conclusion of the first half.
Four Seawolves shot 100 percent at the free throw line in the first half led by
Deshawnte Collins and
Jordan Hickman who were both credited four a piece in the first half.
Out of the gate,
Wesley Gilbert downed two free throws to put the Seawolves within one point of the Broncos 30-29. Despite trailing the remainder of the game, Sonoma State continued its free-throw success, with three players shooting 100 at the line led by Hickman's four.
Broncos set the pace, scoring four of the game's final seven points for a 75-62 road win.
A season-high evening for Collins and Hickman, Hickman has credited 14 points, making eight of his nine free throws, shooting 3-for-4 from the field and Collins went 6-for-6 at the charity line.
The Seawolves travel to Santa Clara Sunday, December 8th to play nonconference opponent Santa Clara at 2:00 p.m.
