SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- A hard-fought game ended in a 84-79 defeat for the Sonoma State Seawolves, who took on the SF State Gators Saturday night in San Francisco. With the loss, the Seawolves fall to 9-13 and 7-11 in CCAA play on the year
The Gators took charge through the first half, building to a 14-point lead at the end of the first period and leading by as many as 16 before the break. While both teams shot to relatively even success rates, SF State opened the margin by simply shooting more often.
In the second half, the Seawolves started missing their target from distance, only making 27.3 percent of shots from beyond the arc, and soon found themselves in a deeper deficit. The Gators opened up a 19-point margin with 10:17 remaining before the Seawolves started to turn things around. A layup by
Brandon Tillis pulled the visitors within 15 with 2:13 remaining, before
Armani Nicolis bagged a bucket and
Mason Phillips hit two three-pointers. The Seawolves pulled within four points with five seconds remaining, capping a 16-3 run over 3:31 but it would not be enough to come away with the victory.
Sonoma State returns to action this Friday as they travel to Cal Poly Pomona to take on the Broncos at 7:30pm in Pomona.
