POMONA, Calif. -- Despite leading through the end of the first half, Sonoma State fell to Cal Poly Pomona Friday night by a final score of 64-51, as the first-place Broncos took the match in come-back fashion.
Lewayne Grant lead the Seawolves on offense--scoring a team-high 12 points--but the visitors' accuracy suffered in the second half, as their shooting dropped 16-percent between the periods and were unable to sink a single attempt from range in the final 20 minutes.
The Seawolves fall to 7-12 overall and 9-14 in conference play, and will attempt to outpace Cal State L.A. (8-12) and Cal State Dominguez Hills (8-11) to earn one of the final playoff spots remaining in the CCAA chase.
Sonoma State led Pomona for 11:35 of the game and opened up a margin of 10 points at the 4:42 mark of the first half, but over the next 15:50, the Broncos wore down the Seawolves' lead with a 27-9 run, subsequently opening up an 11-point lead of their own. Sonoma State exchanged a barrage of points in equal amounts over the final 8:16, as their hosts would come away with the 13-point victory.
Aside from Grant,
Mason Phillips also helped his side, shooting 60 percent from the field, netting a trio of three-pointers, while also going 2-2 from the line.
The Seawolves will stay in Southern California tonight, as they travel San Bernardino for a 7:30 pm matchup with the Coyotes, Saturday.
