SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — After winning a 9-0 match over UC Santa Cruz, the Sonoma State Seawolves stayed in town for a neutral-site competition with NAIA Westmont College. The Seawolves continued their hot start to the season with their fifth win in six matches, taking down the Warriors, 8-1.
Sonoma State immediately put pressure on the Warriors, taking all three doubles matches. Hannah Highsmith and Clarisa Colling led the team by finishing up their 8-3 set first and setting the tone for the rest of the day.
Going into the singles portion, the Seawolves only needed two victories to clinch the match and got it from Jensyn Warren as well as teammate Jennifer Kingsley. Warren defeated Isabel Lee 6-0, 6-4 in the singles 1 match, before Kingsley took the 6 singles over Zarina Huber (6-2, 6-1) clinching the Seawolf victory.
The Seawolves return to competition next Friday as they travel to Phoenix, Arizona for the Phoenix Invitational to match up with Western New Mexico and Colorado Mesa on the first day of competition. First serve is set for 11am.
