#15 Seawolves Blast Cougars 17-1, But Settle For Split

ROHNERT PARK -- The Sonoma State softball team exploded for 17 runs in Saturday's opener to win 17-1, but suffered a 10-5 loss in game two to settle for a split with visiting Cal State San Marcos at the Seawolf Softball Field.  The Seawolves move to 17-7 overall and 13-5 in the CCAA.  The Cougars are now 4-18 (3-17 CCAA).

In game one, the Seawolves scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning before the Cougars could register an out, and the hosts ended up with six in the frame to open up a 6-0 lead.  Karly Macadangdang led off the second inning with a solo home run to make it 7-0, then six more runs would come home to score in the third inning to make it 13-0 after three innings.

Another four runs crossed the plate in the fourth to make it 17-0, but before the mercy rule kicked in, Cal State San Marcos loaded the bases in the top of the fifth and scored their lone run on a single up the middle, but that's all Brielle Vidmar (8-2) would allow in her complete-game victory.  In all, Vidmar gave up just three hits, striking out two.

Sarah Langley went 2 for 3 with a double and four RBI to pace the Seawolf offense.  Julie Davis, Macadangdang, Cierra Hylton and Cameron Kirtlan each had two hits apiece.

The 16-run victory by Sonoma State was its largest margin of victory since it blasted Cal State East Bay by 17 runs (19-2) back on March 31, 2009.

In game two, the tables turned and it was Cal State San Marcos to hang eight runs up on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning, and it proved too much to overcome for Sonoma.

Alex Flores went 3 for 5 with a double and two RBI in the series finale.  Davis and Macadangdang added two more hits in the loss.

Sonoma State will step outside of league play for the next two and a half weeks, beginning with a doubleheader against Pace University on Wednesday, weather permitting.  Following Wednesday's action, the Seawolves will take a week off before traveling to Turlock for the annual Tournament of Champions.
