ROHNERT PARK -- Alyssa Cuffia's three-run home run in the first inning of game one and
Karly Macadangdang's home run and three RBI in game two powered the Sonoma State softball team to a sweep of Cal State San Marcos Friday, with scores of 3-1 and 4-2 to open the four-game set at the Seawolf Softball Field. The 15th-ranked Seawolves rise to 16-6 overall and 12-4 in the CCAA. The Cougars stumbled to 3-17 (2-16 CCAA).
Pitcher
Teresa Danenberg also came up clutch in relief in both games, tossing the final three innings in game one and game two, allowing just three hits and one unearned run to earn a pair of saves.
Cuffia delivered not just one home run on the day, but she homered in the third inning of game two, a solo shot that put the Seawolves up 4-0. That came after Macadangdang blasted a two-run shot in the bottom of the first, then recorded an RBI infield single in the second to score
Julie Davis.
Macadangdang and Cuffia was responsible for all seven runs scored in the game, pounding out six of the 16 Sonoma State hits on the day.
Lindsey Calcany Blair went 3 for 5 with a walk, and Davis had a pair of hits as well, one being a double.
Brigid Ruiz (6-2) and
Brielle Vidmar (7-2) both earned a victory in the circle, both giving up just one run in four innings of work each.
Sonoma State and Cal State San Marcos returns to the field Saturday at 11:00 am to wrap up the series.
