HAYWARD, Calif. — Sunday afternoon the Seawolves wrapped up their final game of the series against Cal State East Bay losing the series finale 6-3.
The Seawolves found themselves down early in the game after Jacob Eder scored Kyosuke Ushimaru give the Pioneers and early 1-0 advantage. The Seawolves responded in the fifth inning.
Bryce Nagata was the first Seawolf runner to cross home plate after a throwing error by the catcher allowing Nagata to easily score home. On that same play
Rayson Romero reached third allowing
Zach Guardino to easily score Romero from third, giving the Seawolves a 2-1 lead.
Problems ensued in the bottom half of the fifth inning. Cal State East managed to get the bases loaded with no out allowing two runners to score in the inning. The Seawolves would find themselves trailing 3-2 after five innings of baseball.
The Pioneers would add to their lead in the sixth inning off a Raymond Jones double scoring Colt Parshall increasing their lead to two. The Seawolves would attempt to come back in the eighth when
Grant St. Martin crushed his seventh home run on the year--tying him with
Bryce Nagata for the team lead--cutting the Seawolves' deficit to one. In the bottom of the eighth, Sonoma would give up two runs and were unable to score in the top of the ninth losing the game 6-3.
Michael Byerline got the start for the Seawolves going five innings giving up three runs (two earned), he received the loss and is now 4-4 on the year. Jacob Call received the win for the Pioneers pitching six innings of relief giving up three runs (one earned), he now 6-2.
The Seawolves move to 24-22, 20-20 in the CCAA with their final regular season concluding next week with a four game series against San Francisco State. The first game of the series will be at San Francisco State Friday at 3:00 PM with the Seawolves returning home for their final two games Saturday May 4.
