Sonoma State got off to a quick 6-0 start in the first set thanks in part to sophomore,

Caiti Wiesner resulting in Sonoma State's second point of the night, before the middle blocker earned back-to-back kills, putting the home team up 5-0. The Seawolves later opened up their lead to seven points due to a receiving error on the Pioneers, pushing the score to 11-4. While Pacific Union tried to work their way back in the set, they were unable to do so, falling by a 10-point margin in set one, 25-15.
Tate Battistini led the Seawolves in set two, accruing three points in the first five rallies with a solo block and a pair of kills. She later pushed the score to 16-7 on a kill before a double block shared with Baysinger opened up an 11-point margin. 18-7. The junior outside hitter notched her fourth kill in the set before Baysinger killed the set point, 25-16.
Amy Trephan and
Emily Eaton blazed through the third set with four and six kills, respectively. The two outside hitters, who racked up 10 kills each to lead the Seawolves in the statistical category, helped close out the match 25-16.
With the win, the Seawolves kick off their season 1-0 before traveling to Turlock on Friday to continue NorCal Volleyball Classic action, taking on Academy of Art and Antelope Valley for a pair of matches at Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena.
