TURLOCK —In this weekend's NorCal Volleyball Classic an eight-team tournament hosted on the campus of Stanislaus State Friday and Saturday, the Seawolves went 2-1, beating Academy of Art (3-0), Antelope Valley (3-1), and falling to Georgia College (1-3). Kicking off the 2018 season 3-1, the programs best weekend opener since 2010 when Sonoma hosted the Seawolf Spike taking down Dominican, BYU-Hawaii, and Grand Canyon University.
Sonoma State 3, Academy of Art 0
The last time these two programs competed was just short of 10 years ago, as the Seawolves took a 3-0 win over Urban Knights in the Wolves Den on the campus of Sonoma State.
This time around Sonoma State held Academy of art to a .108 hitting mark, the Seawolves had eight total team blocks and won the dig battle 43-30.
Megan Bohorquez had a team-best 16 digs and
Jenna Miller had 15 assists.
Outside hitters
Emily Eaton and
Caiti Wiesner had 7 kills each to help the Seawolves to a 25-15, 25-13, 25-21 win over the Urban Knights.
Senior
Morgan Annala recorded half of the team's blocks (4) and hit .545 with six kills (on 11 attempts and zero errors) in a quick three-set match.
Academy of Art went 6-21 in 2017 was picked to finish 11th this season in the PacWest preseason coaches poll.
Sonoma State 3, Antelope Valley 1
Friday was the first time in program history that the Seawolves and Pioneers faced off on the hardwood.
Eaton led the team with 13 kills, Battistini spiked 11 and Baysinger put-away 9.
A trio of Seawolves hit over .500,
Adriana Baysinger hit (.692 on 13 tries),
Morgan Annala hit (.625 on eight tries), and
Brianna Ranney (.500).
Running the defense was redshirt freshman
Jenna Miller who posted 25 assists with four digs, alongside juniors
Megan Bohorquez with 19 digs and
Ashleigh Phelps with 12 digs.
The Seawolves bounced back from a first set defeat, holding the Pioneers to 10 points in set two and win the following two to take the match.

Georgia College 3, Sonoma State 1
The Seawolves took on the Bobcats who are chosen to finish second in the Peach Belt Conference in the preseason coaches poll falling 3-1.
For the third, time Eaton led the Seawolves in kills (17) and followed junior
Caiti Wiesner.
The Seawolves opened the third set with a kill by Baysinger, block by Baysinger and kill by Battistini to take a 3-0.
Sonoma dominated the match in aces with (10 to Georgia Colleges 4), kills (57 to Georgia Colleges 47), assists (54 to Georgia Colleges 45), and digs (65 to Georgia Colleges 61).
The Seawolves are back in action Monday August, 27th when they take on Dominican on the road in San Rafael.
