Eaton Leads Seawolves, When Facing Penguins

San Rafael – The Seawolves saw its first five-set match of the season Monday night when they put up a 25-20, 15-25, 25-23, 22-25, 13-15 fight against PacWest opponent Dominican University, falling 2-3.

Sonoma took an early 11-3 lead in set one, taking the set 25-20 over Dominican. Set two saw a different outcome when the Penguins ran with a 16-8 lead to win the second set 25-15. Tied entering the third set the Seawolves capitalized on momentum, allowing them to hold a lead throughout the entire third set to take a 2-1 going into the fourth set.

As the score went back-and-forth between teams Dominican took hold of a healthy lead and never let go, forcing a deciding set. The Seawolves came back from a 9-4 deficit to close the gap 14-13 but the comeback fell short and the Penguins captured the win with a 15-13 fifth-set win.

Redshirt freshman Emily Eaton and Jenna Miller lead Sonoma's offense. Eaton continues to lead the Seawolves in kills with 64, adding 17 against the Penguins, averaging 3.37 kills per set, and Miller with six aces and 43 assists.

Dominican went 9-11 in 2017 and was picked to finish eighth this season in the PacWest preseason coaches poll.

After Monday evenings lose the Seawolves continue to lead the series between Dominican 12-2, beating the Penguins the last 10 times they have faced.

The Seawolves return to the road this weekend, as they travel to the campus of Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, California for a three-day showcase.
