Seawolves See Unbeaten Streak Cracked by #1 Tritons

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Sonoma State's eight-game unbeaten streak came to a close Friday night as the #24 team in the nation was defeated by #1 UC San Diego at Triton Soccer Stadium, 2-1.

Scoring kicked off in the first fifteen minutes of the game as UC San Diego quickly got on the board at 12:22, before the Seawolves equalized just seconds later. After receiving a through ball over the top from the left side, CCAA Golden Boot leader Mary Reilly placed a right-footed shot into the left side of the net for her eighth goal of the season. The Tritons' opening goal ended a streak of 464-straight minutes in which Sonoma State had held their opponent scoreless.

Just 24 seconds after the reset at midfield, Julia Pritchard found her way into the back of the net for the 1-1 equalizer. Set up by Miranda Sanchez, Pritchard let off a shot just short of 25 yards out, up and over San Diego keeper Angelica Ramos. The goal marked the Seawolf midfielder's second of the season.

Two minutes before the end of the half, UC San Diego struck for their second goal of the match, and what would prove to be the game-winner. After having the ball laid off to her, Christina Oddone took a left-footed strike just outside the top-left corner of the box and converted for her second goal of the year.

Despite staying nearly even in shots taken through the first half, the Tritons quadrupled the Seawolves' total in second half (8-2) but Sonoma State prevented the hosts from scoring in the final 45 minutes of play.

With the loss, the Seawolves drop their first game of the season and move to 5-1-3 and 3-1-1 in CCAA play and fall into a tie for second place with Cal State LA (3-1-1, 10 points).

Sonoma State returns to the pitch Sunday for an early afternoon duel with third-place Cal State San Marcos (3-0-0, 9 points) at The Cage.
