Rohnert Park, Calif. -- Sonoma State dropped its first home game of the new year to San Francisco State 67-56. The Seawolves are now 5-8 overall and 3-7 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Seawolves took a 19-17 lead in the first quarter, highlighted by
Sophie Northern's three-pointer at the buzzer.
Sonoma State continued its scoring efforts in the second period, extending its lead over the Gators 22-19 with just over eight minutes left on the clock. San Francisco State quickly flipped the switch with w three-pointer and two consecutive jumpers. With 4:31 left in half,
Aaryn Pickett downed a three-pointer to tie the game 27-27, followed by a layup by
Taylor Todd, giving the Seawolves the lead once again. Three free throws by San Francisco State gave the Gators its 32-31 lead into halftime.
The Gators opened the second half with a jumper to extend its lead over the Seawolves to 34-31.
Zane Sheckherd connected her first free throw to help the Seawolves stay within two points of the Gators. San Francisco gained a 13-point lead to end the third quarter.
Sonoma trailed the Gators the remainder of the game, chasing 15-points at the start the quarter. With less than 2:00 on the clock the Seawolves'
Ra'Shanae Johnson brought the score within eight points with her layup.
The Seawolves outdid the Gators in points of turnovers (23-to-13), second chance points (13-to-10), bench points (11-to-8), and points in the paint (28-to-22),
