Pomona, Calif. – Sonoma State began its weekend in Southern California with a double-overtime game against Cal Poly Pomona. The regionally ranked No. 4 Broncos outscored the Seawolves 81-73 in the 50-minute conference game.
Cal Poly erased a 6-point Seawolf lead midway through the second half, using a 31-25 run to take a one-point edge over Sonoma State with just over a minute remaining in regulation. Armani Nicolis hit a free throw with 45 seconds left to tie the game at 59-59.
The Seawolves fought off a 3point deficit early in the first overtime, capped with a 65-64 layup by Lewayne Grant, answered by a single free by the Broncos to even the score and force a second overtime. Sonoma State could not regain the lead, tying the Broncos 67-67 with 3:49 remaining, ultimately falling 81-73.
Inside the Boxscore Armani Nicolis put on a season-high 18-point performance against the Broncos, shooting 5-for-11 from the field and 6-for-9 from the line. Isaac Davidson scored a team-high 20 points, going 6-for-6 from the charity line along with six rebounds. Deshawnte Collins registered 10-points and a season-high nine rebounds against Cal Poly Pomona
By The Numbers: The Seawolves shot 41.7 percent (20-for-48) overall, including a 31.3 percent (5-for-16) ratio on three-pointers… Cal Poly Pomona shot 45.5 percent (10-for-22) on three-pointers, including a 2-for-4 clip in overtime.
