Santa Rosa, Calif. – In a non-conference doubleheader against the Hawks of Holy Names University the Seawolves dropped the opener 8-7 and won the closer 2-1 splitting with the Hawks.
GAME 1: Holy Names 8, Sonoma State 7
Game one started rocky for the Seawolves as the Hawks jumped ahead 3-0 in the opening inning.
A Holy Names solo home run up the middle in the third boosted the Hawks lead to 4-0.
Cameron Kirtland brought in
Alee Balanon with a triple to right center, then capitalized off a bad throw from the outfield to cut the score in half 4-2.
After 2.3 innings of scoreless softball, the Seawolves fought back with two homers in the fifth, with a leadoff over the left field fence by
Megan Ambriz and a two-run shot by Lindsey Calcany-Blair.
Despite a five-run fifth inning Holy Names rallied up four in the sixth to edge the Seawolves 8-7.
GAME 2: Sonoma State 2, Holy Names 1
Game two, with a slim window of time to get game two in, the 6.3 inning game met NCAA minimum requirements (five innings) ending in favor of the Seawolves.
Sonoma State came back after its game one loss, as they started five of the six innings getting the lead batter out.
Sonoma State took an early 1-0 lead in the first when Kirtlan scored off
Cassidy Romanos double to left center, then extended its lead in the second when Calcany-Blair scored off
Michelle Santiago's single through the left side.
Brielle Vidmar notched her first win of the season, despite allowing the Hawks lone run off a solo home run over left.
