Monterey, Calif. – Despite Cal State Monterey Bay striking first in the opening minute with a layup in the paint, the Seawolves strung four baskets together to take hold of the lead for the remainder of the game.
For the majority of the game, Sonoma State held the lead, taking the lead less than two minutes into the game and maintaining the advantage the rest of the game.
Sonoma State snapped a five-game losing streak with an 81-64 win over the Otters, improving 8-14 overall and 6-11 in the CCAA.
The Seawolves took a 12-point (42-30) halftime lead with a strong defensive effort holding Cal State Monterey Bay to 32.3 percent (10-for-31) from the floor, including 36.4 percent (4-for-11) from three-point range. Meanwhile, Sonoma State shot 43.3 percent (13-for-30) and went 4-for-10 from the three-point line in the opening half.
Sonoma State remained strong in the second half, shooting 48.1 percent (13-for-27) from the field, improving their shots made from the arc (5-for-13) and 8-for-9 from the line. The Seawolves led by as many as 25 points midway through the second half.
