Hayward, Calif. – Up by a basket with less than 40 seconds on the clock the Seawolves fell 66-65 at the hands of a pair of free throws made by the East Bay Pioneers.
Sonoma State is now 8-15 overall and 6-12 in the CCAA.
Despite a tight scoring first half and a double-digit lead over the Pioneers multiple times in the second half the Seawolves efforts fell short.
Sonoma State shot 33.3 percent (6-for-18) on three-pointers and 43.6 percent (24-for-55) overall from the field. Four Seawolves scored double figures,
Lewayne Grant (14-points; 4-6 FG and 4-7 FT),
Jordan Hickman (14-points; 5-9 FG and 4-4 FT),
Isaac Davidson (10-points), and
Aaron Porcil (10-points).
Less than a minute into the final half, a jumper by Hickman Sonoma State evened the score 32-32, the Seawolves later gained an 11-point lead over the Pioneers 50-39 off a three-pointer made by Porcil.
With less than a minute remaining in the game Porcil added a free-throw to give the Seawolves a 65-64 edge over East Bay.
A pair of free throws with :22 left on the clock put the Pioneers up for good, 66-65.
The Seawolves outperformed the Pioneers with second-chance points 9 to 6 and bench points 56-10.
