Seaside, Calif. – Sonoma State had five home runs spread throughout Saturday's doubleheader with Cal State Monterey Bay.
Jordyn Martinez and
Jordann White both hit their tenth home run of the season, and remain tied for the most home runs in the conference. Four home runs in game two helped Sonoma split its Saturday doubleheader with Cal State Monterey Bay. The Seawolves dropped game one 8-6 and won game two 8-4.
Alee Balanon accounted for two of the Seawolves four home runs in game two.
Sonoma State is now 28-17 overall and 18-14 in the CCAA, currently sitting fifth in the conference with one series remaining.
Game One: Cal State Monterey Bay 8, Sonoma State 6
Martinez knocked a two-run home run in the top of the first inning to give the Seawolves a 2-0 lead over the Otters.
Cal State Monterey Bay added five runs and kept the Seawolves from crossing the plate till the seventh. Balanon doubled to left center to bring
Lindsey Calcany Blair and
Cassidy Romano home to get within a run of the Otters (5-4).
Cameron Kirtlan doubled to center field to score
Bella Chadwell to tie the game 5-5, and
Nicole Renner drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in Balanon home to regain the lead 6-5.
The Otters tied the game with a solo home run in the seventh to force extra innings, then won the game with a walk-off two-run homer in the eighth.
Game Two: Sonoma State 8, Cal State Monterey Bay 4
The Otters took an early 3-0 lead in the first.
Balanon cut the deficit with a solo home run over center field (3-1) in the third.
Cal State Monterey Bay added a fourth run off a fielder's choice.
In the sixth Kirtlan singed to short to score
Julie Davis (4-2).
In the sixth the Seawolves hit through the lineup, starting with a leadoff solo home run by Calcany Blair (4-3).
Sonoma State had a break out seventh inning, featuring five hits, six runs, and two Otter pitching changes.
With a new Otter on the mound, the Seawolves hit back-to-back home runs to take hold of a 5-4 lead. Balanons seventh homer of the season and Whites tenth. Following the second pitching change of the inning, Davis scored off a fielder's choice hit by Renner. Renner then scored off an RBI single hit by Calcany Blair for an 8-4 lead.
