21-Inning Day on the Diamond

Rohnert Park, Calif. –Sonoma State won its series against Cal State Los Angeles 3-1 after dropping game three of the series the Seawolves came back in the final game to win 3-0.  
 
Sonoma State is now 17-16 overall and 15-13 in the CCAA.
 
Game Two of Series: Sonoma State 4, Cal State Los Angeles 3 
A game that lasted throughout the night concluded Sunday morning in the top of the ninth after being halted tied 1-1 after eight innings Saturday night.
 
Following six scoreless innings from both programs, the Golden Eagles crossed the plate in the seventh with an RBI single to right field to break the silence. The Seawolves answered back with their own single down the right-field line by Kory Brown to score Zach Guardino and tie the game 1-1.
 
One more scoreless innings was played before the game was paused due to the sun setting. 
 
Sunday morning the game picked up where it was called in the top of the ninth with Tyson Canfield on the mound. 
 
Both squads struggled to cross the plate despite three hits between the two until the 13th when the Golden Eagles reached base on a hit by pitch and an error by the Seawolves infield. Cal State Los Angeles then doubled to right center to clear the bases and take hold of a 3-1 lead over Sonoma State.
 
With one down and bases juiced Jack Pridy drew a walk to bring James Harwell across the plate, then in the next at-bat Lenney lined out to the second baseman and Hill scored off a throwing error by the first baseman to tie the game 3-3. 
 
After holding the Golden Eagles to no hits, the Seawolves held Cal State Los Angeles from scoring in the top of the 14th. Then led off the bottom of the 14th with two walks, and a sac bunt to advance the runners to second and third. With an open base, the Golden Eagles intentionally walked Matt Hill to load the bases with one down. Guardino drew the game-winning walk to score Drew Downing to lift the Seawolves to a 14-inning 4-3 victory.
 
Game Three of Series: Cal State Los Angeles 9, Sonoma State 5
Following a thrilling game two of the series, both teams didn't score until the third inning. Off two hits the Golden Eagles crossed the plate three times to gain a 1-0 lead. Sonoma State answered in the bottom of the inning with a run of their own when Guardino capitalizable off a throwing error by the third baseman to cut the Golden Eagles lead to 3-1. 
 
Neither team scratched a run in the fourth, fifth or sixth until Cal State Los Angeles strung four hits together in the seventh to add five runs to the board (8-1).
 
The Seawolves added a pair of runs in the eighth to cut the Golden Eagles lead to 8-3 when Lenney doubled to left field to bring Brown around home, and Jack Pridy hit a sacrifice fly up the middle to score Patrick Tolbert.
 
Cal State Los Angeles hit in an insurance run in the top of the ninth (9-3).
 
Three walks and a single down the left field line by Guardino scored the Seawolves first run of the ninth, then with bases loaded Medina scored off a fielder's choice hit by Tolbert.
 
Game Four of Series: Sonoma State 3, Cal State Los Angeles 0
Dominic Garihan went the distance, tossing seven innings and facing 26 batters, Garihan recorded a season-high ten strikeouts in his second win this year.
 
After three and a half innings of scoreless baseball, the Seawolves scored the first run of the game off a sacrifice hit by Brown to score Harwell. 
 
Following another scoreless inning in Sonoma States Guardino knocked a solo shot over left field to double the Seawolves hold on the Golden Eagles. With two down and Pridy on third Downing singled up the middle to bring Pridy in, the final score after seven was 3-0.
