BSB: Seawolves Salvage Final Game in Fresno For First win

Fresno, Ca - After losing the first two games of the series, Sonoma State rallied for a 4-3 win over Fresno Pacific to notch the season's first victory and earn Head Coach John Goelz win number 1,097 in his career.

The Seawolves jumped out to an early lead, in the first Jake Hernandez doubled to left center field, driving in Isaiah Morales who led off the game with triple.

SSU would add two runs in the third as Joshua Medina would rip an RBI double down the line in left and then later score on a ground out by Ben Sanderson to make 3-0.

The Sunbirds would rally for two in the third and one in the 5th to tie it up 3-3.  Then in the top of the 6th with runners at first and third, pinch runner Ryan Wilmoth would take off early for second, Fresno Pacific would throw to third.  Ben Sanderson took off for the plate and scored as the late throw home was dropped, and Sonoma State had the lead 4-3.

Fresno Pacific would get teh tying and winning runs on base in the bottom of the seventh but reliever Ryan Baldenebro would notch the save as NIck Simmons took a hit away, snagging a line drive up the middle by diving to his left and flipping to second basemen Isaiah Morales for spectacular game ending double play.

Coach Goelz felt good about getting the final game of the series despite his Seawolves  making some crucial early season mistakes, "We could have played allot better and I wish we could have won the series, but the team was scrappy and hung in there."  He said after the win. "Hopefully we will learn from this and get ready for our next game at home on Tuesday."

Ben Haslam got the win in relief and Jake Hernandez got 2 more hits to lead the offense in this one.  SSU is now 1-2 on the young season.

The Seawolves host SF State Tuesday afternoon in Rohnert Park.
