BOX SCORE Rohnert Park, CA - Tuesday afternoon Sonoma state baseball had their home opener against NorCal rivals SF state in a non conference friendly before they meet again next Tuesday. San Francisco State was making their season debut while the Seawolves were fresh off of a 3 game set against Fresno Pacific where they dropped 2 of 3 but salvaged the series finale in a 4-3 win giving them confidence coming into their home opener.
Coach Goelz and his group had to work with a thin pitching staff for the afternoon contest after coming off a 3-game series just 2 days prior.
Sir Gomez got the start for Sonoma and kept the Seawolves in the game early on. After going up 2-1, the Gators responded with a solo shot to tie it at 2 a piece. The Seawolves began bouncing from pitcher to pitcher to keep the SF state hitters off balanced. After a couple of unearned runs in the 6th given up by the Seawolves, they found themselves in a position to tie the game with two on and two out in the bottom half of the 8th.
Pinch hitter
Jack Pridy came to the plate and down to his last strike he slices a ball down the right field line to score both runners and tie the game at 4! Senior pitcher
Andrew Trahan was also huge for the Seawolves as he was the last relief pitcher in the game for SSU and had a clutch strikeout to end the threat the half inning prior to keep it a two run game. With the sun quickly setting in Sonoma county the game came to a halt the following half inning and ended 4-4 for the time being. After further discussion between the two managers it was decided that the game would resume the following week when the Seawolves travel down to the city for a rematch with the Gators.
The Seawolves will now look to finish off the 4-4 tie and ride the confidence into the second scheduled game next Tueday at 2PM. As of now
John Goelz and the Seawolves are 1-2-1 after their first 4 games as coach Goelz inches closer to his 1100th career win!
