BSB: Seawolves Drop 2 In Make-Shift DH

SSU resumed their continuation game from last week but fell 7-5 before playing game 2

San Francisco, CA - Tuesday afternoon the Seawolves traveled into the city to take on the Gators in their final non-conference matchup of the season. However, they first had to finish their continuation game from the previous week where the Seawolves had tied the game at 4 a piece in the bottom of the 9th before the light went out. So at noon, the Seawolves started off the top of the 10th tied at 4 trying to take two from the Gators in a make-shift doubleheader.

After a 1-out single from the Gators, senior pitcher Roberto Baldenebro was able to settle down with a couple of strikeouts and a ground out to end the threat. Keep in mind that Sonoma was the home team momentarily as we were resuming the game from the previous week so all they needed was one run to secure the win. With a single and a stolen base the Seawolves had 1 out and a runner in scoring position. The next batter for Sonoma singled and coach John Goelz had an aggressive mindset to go take this first game as his third base coach decided to send the runner from second. A good throw to the plate forced a wide slide and the runner attempted to dance around the catcher to sneak his hand in but was called out on the tag. The Gators would retire the next batter to force the game into the 11th. Baldenebro returned to the mound but would struggle eventually giving up 3 earned n 4 hits. Sonoma would grab one back in the bottom half but would eventually fall 7-5 dropping the continuation game.

To start their regularly scheduled contest, junior Demian White would get the nod and go 3 strong scoreless innings for the Seawolves. The game was 0-0 until White gave up 3 earned and 3 crucial walks to the Gators. Free bases were crucial for SF State as Sonoma allowed 7 of them on the game. The Seawolves would allow 7 unanswered runs and 13 hits on the game. They would drop the second game 9-1 and fall to 1-4 on the year.

Coach John Goelz and his ball club will look to bounce back despite the slow start as they travel to Turlock to face the Warriors of Stanislaus State who are 6-0 on the season.
