Turlock, Ca- Sonoma State rallied for 3 runs in the 6th and closed the door from their to pull off a 8-5 win over Stanislaus State. Solid relief pitching from
Riley Jones (4 1/3 i.p./ 0 er) led the way as Jones picked up his first win of the year.
Andrew Trahan nailed down the victory getting the final 2 outs for his first save of the season as well.
For Coach
John Goelz it was a milestone day, as he became the second winningest coach in CCAA history. This was his 1,098th, surpassing Jack Smitheran from UC Riverside on the all-time list.
It was a good way to start the day for the Seawolves, after losing 12-1 on Friday night.
"Despite the slow start the team is trying hard and will get better," Said Coach Goelz after the doubleheader split on Saturday.
SSU led 3-1 going into the bottom of the 4th, when starter
Robert Towne ran into trouble, after a solid start on the bump. The Warriors would score 3 runs in the inning and took a lead 5-3 to the 6th.
The Seawolves would erupt for 3 runs with an RBI single by
John Abate, scoring
Dante Peretti and then
Isaiah Morales driving in two more runs with a base hit up the middle.
Morales went 2 for 5 on the day one of 5 Seawoves with 2 hits on the day, including
James Harwell (2x5),
Joshua Medina (2x3),
Ben Sanderson (2x4, 2b) and
John Abate (2x3).
The teams meet again on Sunday to finish off the series and SSU hosts UC San Diego next weekend.
