The Seawolves battled nationally ranked Concordia on Friday where they lost 6-1 in a competitive match. After weather played a role their match against Biola on Saturday, they were looking to finish on the right foot with an upset victory against the Tritons.
Coach
Jose Hilla and his group got off to a great start getting the double point winning 2 of the 3 matches. Doubles partners
Max Nudell and
Lovedeep Singh were quite impressive winning 6-4 over the Tritons pair. Senior
Alec Wong and
Paul Trabitzsch also won their doubles match 6-4 helping to secure the doubles point on the day. The Seawolves had the momentum going into the singles and coach Hilla was incredibly proud of his teams efforts. "The facilities and venue were amazing and our players were really excited and motivated to play. UCSD is a great team and being able to play a nationally ranked team in such a great enviornment was awesome for my players" (Hilla).
Lovedeep Singh started SSU off ont he right foot with a singles win in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-0. UCSD would take the next two singles matches putting them in front. With the singles favoring the Tritons at 3-2, the entire match day would come down to the final singles match involving SSU's
Max Nudell. Nudell would take the first set 6-4 but would drop the second set 6-2 forcing an elusive third and match deciding set. The two would go the distance as
Max Nudell would just narrowly fall short, 7-6. Coach Hilla said the atmosphere was electric and Max played an incredible match. The Seawolves went toe-to-toe with the 7th ranked team in the country and just fell short, 4-3.
