Rohnert Park, CA - Sonoma State Athletics, in consultation with the CCAA Presidents/Chancellor Board, have officially made the decision to cancel all forms of sport competition through May 2020 due to the ongoing development of COVID-19. Our care and support from Sonoma State's athletic department go out to all of our tremendous student-athletes during this difficult time.
The CCAA also stated that all CARA based activities and events are prohibited for all sports until May 31st, 2020. The CCAA also made statements on recruiting clarifying that no on or off campus in person recruiting is allowed through May 31st, 2020. This does not include written or virtual communication between athletes and coaches following NCAA recruitment guidelines with prospective student-athletes during this time. The full release from the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) can be found HERE.
With this news, it is now official that all Sonoma State athletic events will be canceled for the remainder of the 2019-2020 academic year. We are deeply saddened by this news and we feel the pain of our student-athletes. Like all collegiate athletes, our student-athletes work incredibly hard on and off the field and for their season to be cut short is unfair to say the least. All practices and other athletically related events are also canceled for the remainder of the spring season. Be sure to check out the Seawolves athletic page for other updates on camps and athletically related events.
Sonoma State University remains open and remote instruction will continue as scheduled from Tuesday, March 24th to Sunday, April 19th as stated by school president Judy Sakaki. More information on the status of Sonoma State's campus and class schedule can be found HERE.
Our hearts go out to all the Seawolf seniors whose seasons got cut short today. You will forever be a Seawolf and a part of the Seawolf family. We thank you for all your continuous effort and dedication you poured into your respective sports and gave to your coaches each and every day. We will get through this and become better from it but for now, everyone please stay safe and healthy during this time.
