BSB- SSU Wins Final game of Weekend Series

Rohnert Park, Ca- The Sonoma Sate Baseball team scored 4 runs in third inning and shut down the visiting Toros bats most of the day on the way to a final game win of the 4 game series.

Starting Pitcher Jack Miller gave the Seawolves just what they needed as he held Cal State Dominguez Hills in check for 6+ innings.  After giving up one unearned run in the first, he cruised through the next 5 before giving way to Robert Towne.  Towne making his first relief appearance of the season came in with runners at first and third and no outs up 4-1.  He gave up a Sac Fly and a single but put out the fire, retiring the next 5 in a row.

Towne gave up a lead off single in the ninth and on came closer Andrew Trahan.  Trahan got some big time help from Shortstop NIck Simmons who made a spectacular diving play up the middle to get a force out at second.  Then with two outs Simmons climbed the ladder on a drive headed to left field and snagged the liner for the final out of the ball game.  For Trahan it was save number 4 on the season.

Sonoma State got most of the offense needed with a 4 run 3rd.  Isiah Morales doubled, Desmond Gates walked, then Josh Medina hit a shot deep to right center that bounced over the fence for a run scoring ground rule double.  Then Jake Hernandez lined

one into right field driving in two more runs.  Hernandez ended up at third as the Toros right fielder Jeremy Ciolek miss-played the ball.  Two pitches later, Hernandez scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-1.

The Seawolves added a much needed insurance run in the 7th after bunting runners over and getting a run scoring ground out from Josh Medina.  Medina  matched Jake Hernandez with two RBIs on the day.  Dante Peretti had two hits including a g double to right center field.

The lefty, Jack Miller earned his first win of the year, scattering 6 hits and striking out three Toros.

"I'm very proud of the way our team came back today after the way this series had been going," Said Coach John Goelz after the win.  "We played hard and got production from our entire lineup.  We could have just mailed it in today but instead we were determined to get a win, that says allot about our character.  I feel like we will continue to improve and we wil be ready for the next series."

SSU is now 7-14 overall and 6-10 in the CCAA.  The Seawolves go on the road next week to take on first place Cal Poly Pomona.
