ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The No. 13 ranked Sonoma State women's soccer team recorded their fifth straight shutout with a 2-0 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Seawolves have yet to surrender a goal in CCAA play while upping their record to 5-0 and 10-1 overall.
SSU continued their defensive dominance this season with nine total shutouts and have allowed just three goals on the season. The defense once again put the clamps on the opponent, limiting the Toros to just eight shots, only two of which were on target.
Offensively, the Seawolves took over the contest in the second half, putting constant pressure on Cal State Dominguez Hills. Sonoma State broke through in the 68
th minute on a shot from distance from
Lexi Zandonella-Arasa. After a shot from
Renee Ketner was blocked by a defender, Zandonella-Arasa lined up a left-footed shot from outside the box. The ball trickled past the goalie and rolled just across the goal line for a 1-0 lead.
Malia Falk put the game away in the 85
th minute with an amazing effort on her 4
th goal of the season. She took the ball down the left side after a pass from Zandonella-Arasa and headed towards the corner. She then cut in, beat a defender and ran along the goal line towards the net. Falk would then bury the shot from tight angle inside the near post.
Emily Masursky earned her second career shutout with two saves in net for the Seawolves. As a team, SSU extended their streak to 520 minutes without allowing a goal.
The Seawolves will look to continue their scoreless streak on Sunday when they head down to Seaside to take on Cal State Monterey Bay.
