WSOC: Seawolves Dominant in 4-0 Victory over Humboldt State

ARCATA, Calif. – The No. 23 ranked Sonoma State women's soccer team turned in a fantastic all-around performance in a 4-0 win over Humboldt State on Friday afternoon.  The Seawolves used an unrelenting attack and a stout defense to tie their season high in goals while also recording their tenth shutout of the season.

The game less than ten minutes old when Sonoma got on the board.  Malia Falk was taken out in the box by the charging goalkeeper and drew a penalty kick.  Julia Pritchard stepped up to take the PK and buried the shot into the right side.

Lexi Zandonella-Arasa made it 2-0 in the 25th minute with a fantastic free kick.  After Renee Ketner was tripped right outside the box on a run down the middle the Seawolves were awarded a free kick from just outside the box.  Zandonella-Arasa lined up the shot, lifted it over the wall and just below the bar for her fourth goal of the season.

Sonoma State was not done in the first half, adding yet another goal in spectacular fashion.  Krissy Keller stamped her name on perhaps the Goal of the Year with a strike from 40 yards out.  The Seawolves took a corner kick that was cleared out of the box by the Lumberjacks.  Keller, the last defender back took the ball down and fired a long-distance rocket over everyone on the pitch.  The ball dipped just below the crossbar and into the back of the net for her third score of the year.

SSU's defense did the rest, limiting any real threats from Humboldt State.  The Jacks recorded just two shots on goal for the entire contest, both of which were stopped by Phoebe Barnes.  The Seawolves added on more goal late in the second half on an own goal.  Ashley Frye sent a cross into to box that was knocked off a defender and into the net.

Sonoma State notched 18 shots for the game, including six on target.  Defensively, the Seawolves recorded their tenth shutout in 13 games while improving to 6-1 in CCAA play and 11-2 on the season.  They have allowed just five goals all season.

The Seawolves close out their roadtrip on Sunday with a match against Chico State.
