WSOC: Seawolves Fall to Stanislaus State 1-0

SANTA ROSA, Calif. – For the second time in as many games the Sonoma State women's soccer team suffered a tough 1-0 loss in CCAA play.  The Seawolves once again controlled play, dominating the time of possession and shots but came away empty handed on the offensive end.  The loss drops SSU to second place in the conference with a 6-3 record.

The first half saw the Seawolves hold a 9-1 shot advantage, including three on target.  Stanislaus State kept the offensive attack at bay, not allowing any great chances until the 41st minute.  Kaci Holliday nearly put Sonoma on the board with a fantastic freak kick from 25 yards out.  Warriors goalie Amanda Leal made a leaping save to keep the game scoreless.

The Seawolves kept the pressure up in the second half but once again could not break through.  Leal made a pair of big saves to keep the game at zeros, including a stop on Olivia Aschbrenner from pointblank after a great pass in front of the net.

Stanislaus State broke the scoreless tie in the 84th minute after earning a corner kick.  Summer England sent the kick into the box where it was knocked into the net by Daisy Martinez.  The Warriors defense did the rest, holding the Seawolves without a shot in the final six minutes.

Sonoma State held a 16-3 shot advantage in the contest including 5-1 in shots on goals.  The Warriors scored on their only shot on target in the game while Leal stopped all five of the Seawolves attempts.

SSU will host first place Cal State East Bay on Sunday for a chance to retake the lead in the CCAA standings.  Sunday will also be Senior Day with the festivities being held before the game.
