ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The #15 ranked Sonoma State women's soccer team earned a hard fought 1-0 victory over Cal State LA to improve to 7-1 on the season. The Seawolves moved to 2-0 in CCAA play with the win while securing their sixth clean sheet of the season.
SSU struck early, opening up a 1-0 lead on a goal by
Malia Falk in the 16
th minute.
Renee Ketner started the sequence with a shot on target that was saved by Areli Reyes and drop in front of the net. Falk ran onto the ball and buried it in the back of the net for her second goal of the season.
The Golden Eagles best chance came in the final minute of the half with a cross right in front of the net. Sonoma keeper Emily Musursky ran across the net to stop the point-blank shot and corral the ball to keep it away from the attack.
Sonoma State's defense took over in the second half to keep Cal State LA off the board. The Golden Eagles had just one scoring opportunity and Musursky once again turned it away. Offensively, SSU nearly added an insurance goal late but Ketner's shot from distance was stopped on a diving save.
Musursky earned her second straight win in net and her first career solo shutout with five saves. Both teams recorded nine shots for the game.
The Seawolves head south next week for a pair of matches against Cal State San Marcus and Cal State San Bernardino. Both games will be streamed on the CCAA Network at
